Born in a steel working town on the Southern tip of Lake Michigan in 1969, to a steel working family, Portage, IN native Lewis Hul Stahl fell in love with music from the very beginning. Sitting in front of the record player as a baby, very carefully placing the needle onto each groove, & laughing blissfully as the beautiful music played, the rhythms & melodies filled him with such delight! His parents, Lewis M. & Eleanor M. Stahl, encouraged young Lewis to explore the amazing sounds of nature all around us, & nurtured his musical interests, surprising him with a drum set on his 4th birthday! Drum lessons soon followed, & by age 6 he was playing at Nativity of our Savior with the Music Ministry!
At Aylesworth Middle School, Lewis added violin in orchestra & saxophone in band, as well as continuing his drumming. Loving both music & sports, Lewis swam on the PHS varsity swim team throughout high school, as well as leading the PHS Symphony Orchestra as Concertmaster, & the PHS Marching Band as Drum Major.
Receiving scholarship to DePauw University, he continued on, studying both music & medicine, and serving as Concertmaster of the DePauw University Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from DePauw in 1990, Mr. Stahl continued to win positions in professional symphony orchestras, and Stahlmusik was established!
Mr. Stahl has continued in music with two more advanced degrees from Northwestern & Indiana Universities, winning many more positions with outstanding symphonies & ensembles, and performing & teaching throughout Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado & around the world!
When Lewis is not performing or teaching, he loves keeping in great shape physically, mentally & spiritually, & you can often find him biking, kayaking, swimming, skiing, running, jumping, climbing & having a whole lotta fun, somewhere on this amazing, beautiful, wild planet!
